So we were one of the lucky few to experience snow in Athens! A once a decade event, snow causes a temporary shutdown of the busy capital. The infrastructure in Athens is not well adapted to snowy conditions like some of its northern neighbours. Cobblestones are safe-ish, but try walking along marble-lined streets and prepare to slip and break bones. You’ll even see cars struggle to gain traction as they navigate narrow corners. So it’s best to wait for the snow to melt and enjoy the once a decade phenomenon while it lasts!
The day snow fell on Athens, the road towards Delphi was closed for safety reasons. Thankfully our guide Michael of Athens Limo provided an exciting alternative itinerary, suggesting we head towards the Peloponnese region of Greece… and it was one of the best detours we’ve made during our trip!
Our trip to Delphi was replaced with the Day Trip to Argolis (10 hours). A swift pick up from our hotel, and we were off on another adventure!
Below is a Visual Diary highlighting the historic beauty of the Peloponnese region.

As always, after much research we chose Athens Limo to explore more of Greece’s landscape, history and architecture. Whilst private tours are pricier, the experience is well worth it. You get your own local guide, private transport and an itinerary to suit your interests. It’s really great value for families and small groups. And if you’ve read some of my previous posts on day trips and private tours, you’ll know I’m a fan!
