With its rich intense history, gorgeous architecture and passionate people, what’s not to love about Poland’s capital city? Here are our top picks for experiencing Warsaw in December.
Wander around Castle Square, Old Town and New Town. Get lost in the streets, talk to the locals and visit the museums. Interestingly most of Old Town was destroyed during the Second World War, however most structures were carefully rebuilt during the post-war period.
Eat Pierogi. These delicious Polish dumplings come in many flavours – steamed or fried. My favourite are the mushroom & spinach. But seriously, try them all!
Join a free walking tour. Be guided through a history of conflict, war, uprising and resilience. Our guide Gawel of Orange Umbrella Free Tours shared a wealth of knowledge about the city’s past and present. At the end of your tour, ask your guide for restaurant recommendations and don’t forget to leave a good tip 🙂
Marvel at the unique architectural landmarks that adorn every corner of the city. When you first arrive in Old Town, you are greeted by colourful buildings just begging to be photographed. Look further and you’ll see typical European architecture from the gothic period right through to neoclassicism.
Get festive… Visit the Christmas Market, go ice skating and stroll down the sparkling Krakowskie Przedmieście Street at night. Warsaw goes all out at Christmas!
Stay for the New Year! 🥂

Warsaw is a very underrated site for tourists. It would not have even been on my radar, except that it was a very inexpensive flight from the prior destination, so why not visit Poland. What a surprise!
And pierogi is worth the visit alone.
